For the purposes of this policy, a "personal relationship” includes but may not be limited to: spouse or significant other, parent, child, grandparent, grandchild, sibling, aunt or uncle, niece or nephew, first cousin, the immediate family of your spouse or significant other (in-laws), or any person whose relationship is similar to those listed above (including step-relations).  


Employment

 

Due to potential for perceived or actual conflicts of interest, such as favoritism or personal conflicts from outside the work environment, which can be carried into the daily working relationship, Centerspace will hire persons with personal relationships to current team member(s) of Centerspace only if: 

  • Candidates for employment will not occupy a position in the same line of authority in which team members can initiate or participate in decisions involving a direct benefit to the relative. Such decisions include hiring, retention, transfer, promotion, benefits, wages, and leave requests.   
  • The personal relationship is disclosed upon application for employment or job transfer to a property or department in which the applicant has a personal relationship with another team member.  


Vendor/Supplier Relationships 

Due to potential for perceived or actual conflicts of interest, such as favoritism or personal conflicts from outside the work environment, which can be carried into the daily working relationship, Centerspace will permit the hiring of persons or companies with personal relationships to current team member(s) of Centerspace only if: 

  • The team member employed by Centerspace does not negotiate the contract, oversee the work, or be responsible for the payment of the contracted vendor or supplier. 
  • The vendor/supplier will be required to provide evidence to support the fact that Centerspace is not their sole customer.  
  • The personal relationship is disclosed at the earliest stage in which the team member is aware that a supplier/vendor with which they have a personal relationship is being considered for contract by Centerspace.
