Centerspace recognizes 11 holidays per calendar year, which are outlined below:

  • New Year's Day (January 1)
  • Martin Luther King, Jr., Day (third Monday in January)
  • Memorial Day (last Monday in May)
  • Juneteenth (June 19)
  • Independence Day (July 4)
  • Labor Day (first Monday in September)
  • Thanksgiving (fourth Thursday in November)
  • Day after Thanksgiving
  • Christmas (December 25)
  • Diversity Day (to be used within calendar year at team member/manager discretion)
  • Birthday (to be used within birth month at team member/manager discretion)

Centerspace will grant paid holiday time off, based on a team member’s regularly scheduled number of hours, and paid at their straight rate of pay, to all eligible team members immediately upon assignment as a regular, full-time team member.

The Diversity Day holiday allows team members to have 1 day of paid leave for observances or celebrations that are not already observed by Centerspace, or to supplement PTO or existing paid holidays.  Diversity Day is available at the beginning of each calendar year and cannot be carried over to the next calendar year.  Requests for Diversity Day must be submitted using the company’s electronic timekeeping system and will be reviewed based on several factors, including business needs and staffing requirements. Diversity Day is a company-offered benefit and is not subject to carryover or payout upon termination or any payment in lieu of Diversity Day.  In the event that the team member is on an approved Leave of Absence during their birth month, they will be issued one 30-day extension upon their return to work.

The Birthday holiday allows team members to celebrate their birthday with 1 day of paid leave to be taken within the month in which their birthday falls.  The Birthday holiday must be used in whole-day increments.  Requests for Birthday holiday must be submitted using the company’s electronic timekeeping system and will be reviewed based on several factors, including business needs and staffing requirements.  In the event that a team member’s request, which was submitted with sufficient notice for review by their manager, is denied due to business needs, they will be issued a one-time one-month extension to use the holiday.  The Birthday holiday is a company-offered benefit and is not subject to carryover or payout upon termination or any payment in lieu of the Birthday holiday.

Centerspace will provide a Holiday Schedule each year that outlines the dates that Centerspace will be closed and how we will handle holidays that fall on weekends. Weekend holidays may be converted to float holidays to be used within the month the holiday falls; specific guidance will be provided in the Holiday Schedule.

If a recognized holiday falls during an eligible team member’s paid absence (such as PTO), holiday pay will be provided instead of the paid time off benefit that would otherwise have applied.  If a recognized holiday falls during an eligible team member’s leave of absence (such as FMLA or Military Leave), holiday pay will not be provided.

If eligible nonexempt team members work on a recognized holiday, they will receive holiday pay plus wages at one and a half times their straight time rate for the hours actually worked on the holiday. If an eligible nonexempt team member works on the day a holiday is observed instead of the recognized holiday, they will be paid for regular hours worked on the day the holiday is observed and receive holiday pay for the recognized holiday.  Part-time and temporary team members who work on a recognized holiday will receive one and a half times their straight time rate for the hours actually worked on the holiday.

Terminating team members must report to work for at least one scheduled shift following a recognized holiday or work on the recognized holiday in order to receive holiday pay.
